The Office on Domestic Violence continues to house and oversee the operation of the City of Chicago Domestic Violence Helpline. The Help Line is a 24-hour, toll-free confidential number that functions as a clearinghouse for domestic violence services and information.
Emergency Rent Assistance
Emergency Rental Assistance is available for people suffering financial hardship due to a crisis such as loss of job, home fire or illness. The program is intended to allow families to maintain housing during the time it takes to regain stability.
Senior Services
Information and Assessment is the key element to accessing all programs and services for senior citizens, a "one stop link" to eldercare service providers in the City of Chicago and throughout the nation. By placing a call to 312.744.4016, an older person or caregiver receives information about the services offered by the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services. Central Information and Assessment is located in City Hall with five community locations in each regional senior center.
Vaccines, Shots, Immunizations
The Chicago Department of Public Health provides Vaccines, Flu Shots and Immunizations for Elementary, High School and some uninsured adults and college students.
Shots are offered to Chicago residents at various Walk-In immunization clinics or through the Mobile Care Van that visits different communities and events throughout the City. Currently, we serve uninsured, underinsured, Medicaid (Title XIX) insured and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP; also known as Title XXI or state-funded) individuals only.
Public Health Services
CDPH offers preventive clinical services, disease testing and treatment at no cost. We also partner with several community-based health centers to provide services for primary care, children, women and family planning.
HIV Primary Care – Our partners, Howard Brown Health Center and UIC provide quality HIV primary care services to people living with HIV in Englewood and Uptown, respectively.
Immunization Clinics - Walk-In immunization clinics provide vaccinations for children 0 through 18 years of age at no out-of-pocket cost.
Mental Health Clinics - We partner with community mental health providers and invest in local agencies to ensure all residents have access to mental health services.
Primary Care – We partner with several different community based health clinics to provide high quality primary care services, children, women, family planning and pregnant woman.
STI Specialty Clinics – We operate five STI specialty clinics to diagnose and treat common sexually-transmitted infections and provide partner services. Residents can also pick up free condoms and learn more about other HIV prevention methods like PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis).
WIC – Our Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education for many pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to qualifying infants and children under age of five.
City of Chicago HomeMod Program
Home accessibility modifications that will allow people with disabilities, under the age of sixty, to make their living environment accessible. Modifications can include: ramps, porch and stair lifts, roll-in showers, widened doorways, accessible sinks and cabinets.
Homeless Prevention Services
DFSS is committed to preventing homelessness whenever possible. Prevention services include short-term financial assistance for rent, utilities, arrears and other costs related to housing stability. In addition to financial assistance, households receive housing stability case management focused on budgeting and resolving issues that contributed to the initial housing crisis. The program is designed to stabilize individuals and families in their existing rental unit to prevent homelessness.
Reentry Support Center assistance
The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services’ Community Reentry Support Centers can assist formerly incarcerated residents in achieving self-sufficiency while successfully reintegrating into local communities.

Illinois Unemployment Insurance
The Illinois Department of Employment Security is the code department of the Illinois state government that administers state unemployment benefits, runs the employment service and Illinois Job Bank, and publishes labor market information.
Veteran Resources
The City of Chicago's Veterans Resource Office is a one-stop clearing house, administered by the Department of Family and Support services, designed to provide assistance for better living and health services to veterans of the United States armed forces and their surviving spouses.
Caregiving Assistance
The Chicago Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) Senior Services division operates a variety of programs designed to address the diverse needs and interests of older Chicagoans, from those who are active and healthy, to those residing in long term care facilities. DFSS provides support services for caregivers, older adults needing housing or legal assistance, and grandparents or older relatives raising children. Below is a list of programs to help support residents.
Public Aid / Child Support Application
The department offers services to dependent children living in Illinois and out of state. To apply for child support services, a person does not have to apply for or receive public assistance. Find a Community Health Center
Community Health Clinics are local facilities offering primary and preventive care to all, regardless of payment ability. Services include prenatal and pediatric care, chronic disease management, and dental care. Clinics provide culturally competent services and free interpretation. They serve underserved populations, including LGBTQ, homeless, and undocumented individuals. Most accept insurance, Medicaid, and sliding scale payments.
